It is expected that Facebook will make an IPO announcement in the near future and local news reporter, Remo Zaccagna, contacted MGImedia President and co-founder Jeff MacArthur for his opinion on the matter.

It is the most hyped IPO since Google, but going public will put it under more scrutiny, will mean it will be held accountable to shareholders and place it under pressure to maximize profits, said Jeff MacArthur, co-founder of MGImedia.ca, a social media consulting firm in Halifax.

Referring to the drive for profits, MacArthur said Tuesday “that could manifest itself in a couple of ways.”

“One is if you’re somebody who’s doing advertising on the Facebook platform, I wouldn’t be surprised to see those prices sort of float up. And there’s certainly going to be increased pressure to exploit user data, ….. so I think that will give rise to some privacy concerns that are already very well-founded out there.”

You can read the full article on the Chronicle Herald website.

On the Road with Amber Mac is a “special information feature” on The Globe and Mail website sponsored by Ford. MacArthur goes about her daily life in a Ford Focus, visiting locations like a farm and various Toronto music landmarks.

Andrew Saunders, vice-president of advertising sales at The Globe and Mail, said he is impressed by the results. Saunders said 23% of visitors viewed the webisode videos, with 70% to 80% of the videos being fully viewed.
